As part of AURORA, the Arts Centre is host to three video works by London-based artist Axel Antas. Antas’ multi-disciplinary practice encompasses photography, drawing and video.  Please note this exhibition will now finish on the 17th November instead of the scheduled 1 December.

One of his recent series of large-format photographs centres on playful interventions in landscape; another (the White Out series) on a reductive abstraction of the landscape, and his video works tackle similar ideas, presenting simple, monotone landscapes almost as dioramas.

The works presented as part of the festival create minimal, formal worlds which offer some familiar points of reference but leave much of the work to suggestion, and to the viewer’s imagination.  In this way, they perhaps approximate the way we really see things more truthfully than a detailed photograph or video could ever hope to do: they acknowledge that the world as we perceive it is full of possibilities.
