ALTAI KAI, a 6-piece group from the Altai Mountains of Siberia are appearing in the UK for the first time. ‘Kai’ is Altai’s own distinctive throat-singing style first used in epic performance. With vocal techniques developed over centuries, a range of traditional instruments (fiddle, lute, pipe, jew’s harp and drum) as well as dance, Altai Kai evokes the sounds of the mountains-steppes, communicates with the spirits of nature and transmits the history and traditions of the indigenous people of the ‘golden’ Altai.
