Opportunities for artists
Norwich Arts Centre Gallery
The Norwich Arts Centre Gallery is situated within a lively venue consisting of the foyer and cafe/bar area. These areas see a variety of local and international entertainment daily attracting a large and diverse audience. The gallery space is large enough to host either a solo or group exhibition and can also be split into two separate gallery spaces.
Due to the nature of the venue, we are looking for Photography and New Media work from local and international up and coming artists and we are keen to support artists outside formal education. Unfortunately the gallery is unable to display paintings. Plasma screens and projectors are also available for exhibitions.

If you are interested in having an exhibition with us please send a labeled CD with 5-10 jpeg images on it, an Artists Statement and CV. If you would like your information returned to you please include a prepaid envelope. Please direct your CD to: Stuart Hobday, Norwich Arts Centre, St. Benedicts Street, Norwich, NR2 4PG, or call 01603 660387 for enquiries.
29/01/08 Go Elephants! - Call to Artists
The Forum Trust and Wild in Art present
Go Elephants!
23 June – 31 August 2008
Norwich’s streets are set to be transformed next summer when a mammoth public art event turns the city’s open spaces into an artistic urban safari. A herd of life-size baby elephants, colourfully painted, decorated and adorned by artists, celebrities and community groups will create a trail across the city for ten weeks before being sold at a gala charity auction in October 2008.
Go Elephants! is looking for artists…

The blank elephant was specifically created to be used as an artist’s canvas. While it is broadly anatomically correct, it has been created to be neither specifically male or female, nor African or Indian. We expect to see a wide variety of designs, some of which will reflect the elephant and its environment, but do remember the elephant is just a canvas for your own artistic imaginations, in whatever art form you choose.
After a selection process, successful artists will be commissioned and invited to decorate their elephants before they stampede into the city in June 2008. An honorarium of £750 will be paid to each artist upon completion of their artwork.
If you would like to design an elephant, guidance and submission forms are available by emailing: This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it or telephoning 01603 727907. Further information is available at www.goelephants.co.uk.

Escalator is a new Arts Council England initiative which aims to find, support and invest in regionally based artists. Covering artists at different stages of their careers in all areas of the performing arts, it enables artists to realise their potential in producing high quality professional work.
Escalator supports a broad range of artists at different stages in their careers, providing coaching, training and investment as well as joint promotion and networking opportunities. Through the development of partnerships and projects, Escalator aims to enhance the profile of artists at both a national and international level.
Escalator is open to all artists based in the Eastern region. Whether at the start of their career or wishing to develop their work further, artists can enter the program at different stages.
To get involved in Escalator, you must demonstrate a clear desire for appropriate professional development. Inclusion will be based on potential, quality of work and clarity of aims, rather than artistic or ethnic background, education or experience. Escalator artists do not have to be working professionally at the time of their inclusion in the program, nor necessarily be seeking to develop their careers along more traditional mainstream paths.
For more information on Escalator at the Norwich Arts Centre and how to get involved please e-mail Stuart Hobday at
